With the passage of HB 3474 in the 88th Texas Legislature, Harris County will soon have a new Court, Probate Court No. 5, on September 1, 2023.

To be considered for the appointment to Judge of Probate Court No. 5, you must:

1)    be at least 25 years of age;

2)    be a United States citizen and have resided in Harris County for at least two years before the appointment; and

3)    be a licensed attorney in Texas who has practiced law or served as a judge of a court in this state, or both combined, for the five years preceding this appointment, unless otherwise provided for by law.

The newly-appointed judge will hold the office until that individual or a successor is elected and qualified after the next general election.
