Policy & Innovation

Health

Commissioner Briones is committed to promoting physical, mental, and environmental health and well-being. Precinct 4 works to ensure all people have access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, including preventative care and comprehensive mental health services, and that they can raise their families in a clean and sustainable environment.

Key Initiatives

Promote Healthcare Innovation

  • Approved expansion of the Chronic Disease Program through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This community-based outreach program offers self-management and prevention education to individuals at high risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and asthma.

Improve Maternal and Child Health

  • Voted to allocate $6 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act for a Reproductive Healthcare Access Fund to remove financial barriers to women’s health and preventative reproductive care, particularly in low-income and underserved communities across Harris County.

Increase Access to the Safety Net

  • Launched the ACCESS Harris County Program, an integrated “No-Wrong-Door” Service Care Approach.
  • Expanded the Holistic Assistance Response Team (HART) program to Precinct 4. This program diverts non-violent 911-calls away from law enforcement and focuses on connecting residents with social services.
